Searching for Anselmo
“Searching for Anselmo” is a documentary series about the journey of former sailor José Anselmo Santos, better known as “Cabo Anselmo”, in search of his own identity. An emblematic figure in the period of the Brazilian military dictatorship, Anselmo was the protagonist of one of the most significant chapters of the struggle against the generals regime. In a little less than a decade, he went from being the leader of the sailors to being a traitor to left-wing movements. After an agreement with the security organs, Anselmo denounced dozens of militants, who were tortured and executed by agents of the repression, including his own companion at the time, the guerrilla and militant of Paraguay Soledad Barrett Viedma. At age 74, Anselmo lives in the shadows and claims he is incapable of proving his own existence.
